One of the most common questions women have in early pregnancy is how to go about deciding on a healthcare provider. This is a huge decision and one that obviously can effect your pregnancy journey and your birth story to come. One factor in making that choice is your current health and if you have other children, whether those pregnancies were medically eventful. If you are in good health with no prior medically eventful pregnancies, you have many options. Midwife, OBGYN, midwife in conjunction with physician, and so on. When you are interviewing your prospective health care provider also consider if that person delivers in a hospital setting, in a birthing center, or in your house. Make certain that their services and methods are in alignment with your pregnancy needs and beliefs. As a pregnancy coach, one of the roles I may take on is that of helping you find out exactly what you want from your pregnancy experience and how to get it (this often includes deciding on health care providers).

If a medically eventful pregnancy has left you with a “high risk” designation, you could employ the use of a doula to help you get what you want from a medically assisted birth. You can also use a pregnancy life coach for such a purpose.

Intuition may play a role in your choice for a pregnancy health care provider. If you have a negative feeling and can’t shake it, trust your instincts – you have them for a reason!
